Bioidentical Hormones
Bioidentical or body-identical hormones (BIH) are hormones that are structurally and
functionally identical to those produced naturally in the human body (body-identical).
These hormones are typically extracted from vegetable sources, usually the wild yam root,
and then modified in a laboratory to exactly match the chemical structure of the hormones
produced by the human body.
Bioidentical (body-identical) hormones are supposed to have the same molecular structure as endogenous hormones, distinguishing them from synthetic hormones. BIH are better recognized and metabolized by the body's cells.
BIH are commonly used in hormone replacement therapy to address hormonal imbalances, particularly during menopause or andropause. They can be administered in various forms, including creams, gels, capsules or injections.
